Updating to 2.01

Post by bocaJ »

Having bought my PS3 used at (apparently) exactly the wrong time, I am wondering if it is possible to run the 2.01 update that I have sitting on my laptop harddrive, or if 2.1 is my only option. I would very much like to get some of the ps2 480i compatibility fixes, along with psp-ps3 working together enhancements, but would also like to keep the linux 3d graphics option open.

Your insights are appreciated, and as always, sorry for my n00bishness.

Merry Christmas.

Don't connect to internet under game os or your risk to accept 2.10 fw upgrade. 2.10=no rsx for ps3 homebrew (either linux or other os)

These are the links to the 2.01 fw updates (won't be working forever) :

http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net ... 3UPDAT.PUP

http://deu01.ps3.update.playstation.net ... 3UPDAT.PUP

Same file. Just pick one, quick.

I'm not very sure how to make the PS3 accept this file on burnt media. But others should help you giving the method to upgrade with it.

With 2.01 you have all the lastest features (up to 2.01) and still rsx available for 2D hardware acceleration and extra 252Mb of ram on gpu side, working immediately in linux distros as simple module (glaurung's), and 3D hardware acceleration in low level coding demos (ironpeter's).

PS3 with fw<2.10 will bloom extraordinarily next year... Be part of it!

I'm on 2.01 and will stay there for a good while to see what will come of the RSX capabilities :)
Anyways, to use that update, put it on memstick/disc like this:

X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP

Then go to the update section on ps3 and update when you are offline :)
