How is Linux/OtherOS autobooted?

Post by digihoe »

I have been thinking about what's needed for Linux to autoboot.

First there is the bootloader inside the flash (can't be removed, only overwritten).

Then there is the Linux partition and installation on the HDD.

But the there must be something more... Some setting...

Is this setting on the HDD or inside the flash?

Has anyone studied the flash in detail? I guess the HDD is somewhat difficult to check, but has anyone figured anything out about it?

Best regards!

The setting is in the flash. It s stored in an unencrypted 4MB block along with the kernel. other-os-flash-util source in ps3pf-utils should make the format clear.
