As if unofficial, writable UMD discs will be cheap or even allowed to be sold in 90% of the world. Sheesh.

And as he said, if you're here to just spit up the same old arguments about movie playback and other media crap like that, you're in the wrong place.

Find a picture of a UMD and then look a PS2 disk.
Then come back and don't ask again :)

That's kinda like asking if a Minidisc will play in a CD player.
Please test and let us know how it goes ;)

Here is some work by a brave "someone" on which way the UMD spins.
Turns out the DISC SPINS!--CLOCKWISE. Im not sure if I can post the source here....so if anyone is interested about it.... I can post it. You will notice that the guy is an am-mature, but hey--- he found out which way the disc spins.

play direction = opposite. don't need to be brave to find that out, a friendly dev could have told you

Whatever makes you happy....I personally would not be brave enough to be poking indside the UMD drive with a screwdriver....which is exactly what he did...... and you know ...may damage the damn thing.....go figure.

am i missing something or dont we already have an open format we can use on the psp? memorystick or somthing like that.

it just seems to me that all this talk about the umd format are a waste of time considering even when you DO read the disc it will be encrypted. and even if you DO crack the encryption youll have code... code that wont run on your psp without being packaged by sony(yet.. i dunno.. this may change inthe future... i guess)

im not here bashing the topic... god knows ive started my share of deadend useless topics... it just seems that to much energy is spent on speculation of a io device that does zero good to development when you already have a way of reading sony authorized files and writting files into and out of the psp via mem stick.

flame away... but id rather you spend enerygy on posting something constructive outside of this thread

...cynical bastard, out...

Hey krys.sys, I am in total agreement with you on this one. This topic has become a very, VERY dead horse IMHO.

I don't think VMD has anything to do with UMD. But here is something interesting about VMD...

Ok, dont try to turn this around on me as none of us are willing to sacrifice a PSP yet. So note the wour THOUGHT. Has anyone THOUGHT about the possibility of connecting the the UMD drive to the IDE controller board in a normal DVD drive. I dont know enouh electronics to be able to speculate on it's feasability. I just wanted to stirr some thoughts on the subject. Im going to try to get some MD disks later to tinker with but I dont have a MD player to reord info onto them.

As this conversation is dipping towards dumping games rather than development of new code, I suggest you steer towards a more dev-friendly topic.
