Descent for PSP

Post by magiK »

I've decided to release this even though its not 100% stable and may still contain zillions of bugs. In my opinion, the Descent source is a mess and not really PSP-port friendly. Check the psp-readme.txt file for install instructions and details. Also note that ad-hoc play will most likely not work in this release, since I haven't got a chance to test it yet, but infrastructure mode should work just fine. Please remember that you need updated PIG and HOG files.

PS: I hope it doesn't blow up your PSP...

It works great on my v2.50 PSP. I found using the following config the best:

Slide Left/Right: Square / Circle
Forward/Back: Triangle / Cross

Slide Up/Down: Up / Down
Bank Left/Right: Left / Right

Any chance we can remap Select / Start, etc?

Also can I get a copy of the source code, I'd like to add Spaceorb support to this, an in game menu, etc...

Descent on the PC with the Spaceorb rocked... Some manuvers are just a little hard to pull off on the PSP.

Perhaps after this is done in can be posted on PSPupdates or similar...

Hmmm.. I and many others seem to be gettign an error when startign up the game:

"Error: Cannot read DESCENT.TEX or DESCENT.TXB"

Ive read the readme, and I own the original game installed on my computer, copied the files "DESCENT.DEM/PIG/HOG" to the DESCENT folder, and nothing, I even tried putting all the files into the folde,r still nothing.

Please shed some light on this topic and thanks in advance, I REALLY want to egt this running on my PSP. Descent is my fav old PC game and been wanting it ported to the PSP sicne the homebrew first started for it.

EDIT: nevermind, I was using the patcher wrong, I got it working and WOW! NO BUGS AT ALL!! I love this port, THANK YOU SO MUCH! This game alone is enough to make me never upgrade!

Hi!

Awesome work for Descent on PSP! It was a dream, and a few monthes ago, I tried to work on it, but the work was so important!

I have succeeded in starting the game on 3.10 OE-A firmware:
Here is the specific folder configuration:

in PSP/GAME/DECENT you put:
DESCENT.HOG
DESCENT.PIG
The versions I have are:
# MD5 checksums generated by MD5summer (http://www.md5summer.org)
# Generated 05/12/2007 10:05:16
c792a21a30b869b1ec6d31ad64e9557e *DESCENT.HOG
fa7e48b7b1495399af838e31ac13b7da *DESCENT.PIG

else you would have the "Error: Cannot read DESCENT.TEX or DESCENT.TXB"

in PSP/GAME150/DESCENT%/
EBOOT.PBP

in PSP/GAME150/DESCENT%/
EBOOT.PBP
and you can put the .PLR file you were using on PC.
The .PCX files are store in this directory.

Found bugs:
1 Minor - .PCX files are using a bad palette.
2 Major - Impossible to open an input text box. (for creating a player at the first start if there is no .PLR file).
3 Major - no music but only firing sounds. (I have tried with timidity.cfg copied in both DECENT directories).
- With autoleveling enabled, If I leave the PSP without touching anything, the ship is slowly turning right...
4 Critical - At the start, the .PLR file is opened from PSP/GAME/DESCENT. But when I modify a setting, it is stored in PSP/GAME150/DESCENT. There might be a simple "hard coded" path issue that is needed to be solved.

Does anyone has an idea about how to solve these 3 issues (especially #2 #3 and #4). Thanks!
Descent on PSP, it was a dream, now it's real!

Would you please consider donating the source code to this program to the Open Descent Foundation? http://www.odf-online.org/homepage/index.php

Then someone else might end up helping to develop it further
