Sony's legal issue with this?

Post by sq377 »

Why doesn't sony help out the development communities? I think that is one reason why games like halflife are so big, they help people to develop things. Is there legal issues with letting us use linux on the psp? I would think the things would sell like mad if everyone could have a good version of linux on these things. I just dont see why they have sooo much protection on them...

I've heard of psp linux trying to get in contact with them but 3 weeks and counting with no response.

Halflife wasn't big - Counterstrike was.

And Valve didn't take notice until that unlicensed mod achieved enough popularity to be worth money.

Which is your reason - there's no money in it.

Regardless, this is not dev related and is being moved to off-topic.

Also, Sony are not fools. Honest :)

If I could buy PSP-Linux and download emulators then I probably wouldn't buy any PSP games! I can barely afford to atm anyway!

Free Genesis/NES/SNES/N64 emus will keep people happy for years.

Also, I have tested a Playstation1 emulator with (a legal copy of) Brian Lara Cricket and found the results to be excellent.

This is how I see it anyway.

I never could play an entire test series though ;)

Counterstrike was made by a guy in his garage. Forcing everyone to buy halflife to play this game.

That was exactly my point. It was done without the support or recognition of anyone until it actually became profitable.

I found EA's Cricket 2002 was a much better game, but perhaps it was for a more refined taste. *shrug*

You'll find these were really just quake tools, which is a different thing altogether.

I used to code in my garage until it flooded and I lost $500 in equipment. Now I code in my bedroom.

Nope. No chance of flooding again... unless the roof leaks. :)
