I can easily fit a two hour movie onto a 512mb stick using a two-pass 448kbps profile. In terms of whether that is enough bitrate, it all depends on the source material - some will require less, some will require more. Quality is decent enough, but a 576kbps profile shows a significant decrease in a...

That's odd - there was a post on this thread yesterday showing the internal connections. It appears to have disappeared!! Any idea where it's gone? It was a link to a very big of the mainboard. cj - the internal connection didn't look much like VGA to me... where did you get the info and using the p...

3GP Converter runs AVS files fine for me... at least it does for me with version .25... Trying a 24fps encode now. I would like to see it working but strongly suspect that the PSP will exactly what it does with a 25fps file - ie, playback the video at 29.97 fps and de-sync with the audio. I would ki...

Marlov, a couple of things to add - firstly, I love your filter because now I don't have to switch to 'full screen', it does it automatically :) Secondly, I feel that the next innovations in video encoding for PSP will be... 1. A converter that makes Nero Digital and other files work on the PSP 2. A...

Good work on this Marlov. I agree that there is not much difference between the custom resolutions and 320x240, although I am seeing some interesting results on native 16:9 resolution encodes. I'm also doing some tests on 480x160, simply because it's nice to have native resolution on at least one ax...

When I read the manual it said that memory stick playback was limited to ASP, not AVC. AVC is the preserve of the UMD movies. I think the PSP was just designed to playback low-res clips from the likes of MPEG4 'dv' camcorders and suchlike, not playback ripped movies. I'm sure that in the fullness of...

Re: PSP Video conversion under linux
Hi, I've made some changes to the latest CVS version of ffmpeg, which allows generation of MP4's that playback on the Sony PSP. In theory they should also work on the Clie. It should be completly platform independant, and so should work on anything the ffmpeg runs on (I have x86_64 linux). Is anyon...

PSP Adaptor for PS2?
OK, I realise that it's not likely to happen any time soon (if at all) but from a technical perspective, is it at all possible that Sony could release a UMD drive/memory stick adaptor for the PS2 that could run PSP software? A device akin to the GBA player for the GameCube, if you will. Is the hardw...

I will look into that gorim, thanks for the heads-up. In terms of the NTSC output, and referring again to the devkit picture, one wonders if those cables emanating from the PSP also drives a TV output. My developer contact seems adamant that the devkit has a TV output and since the PSP is attached t...

Yes this picture shows the internals and it looks like a dedicated connection of the type I've never seen before, although the ribbon cable looks easily removable from the main board: http://forum.lik-sang.com/other/psp-release/psp-release57.jpg Just had word from a developer who is expecting a dev ...

I would imagine whether it is analogue or digital is all going to be down to the cost of the internals - in terms of visual quality, the human eye wouldn't be sensitive enough to tell the difference when the screen is that small. I guess I'm going to have to open mine up and take a look at it. I kno...

TFT Internal Connections?
Has any one opened up their machine or seen the PCB of the PSP? Does any one know how the TFT screen is interfaced to the main board? Essentially, I'm looking to intercept that signal and capture it. I have a Matrox Meteor II multichannel framegrabber which can handle pretty much any kind of resolut...
