I know wikipedia isn't very reliable, but one thing caught my eye when reading the wiki for homebrew:
Originally, graphics support was limited to framebuffer access only (no access to the PlayStation 3's graphics chip RSX yet), however, as of Yellow Dog Linux 6.1, the restrictions on the RSX chip have been lifted

If only this was true :( |

Originally, graphics support was limited to framebuffer access only (no access to the PlayStation 3's graphics chip RSX yet), some access to the RSX graphics chip was achieved however Sony blocked this with firmware release 2.10. _________________ http://www.dbfinteractive.com |

But wasn't FW2.10 released way before YDL 6.1? |

So the comment couldn't be referring to pre 2.10 firmware related stuff.. Even though I hardly doubt it would have been anyway, as I can't imaging Yellow Dog Linux using unsupported features which weren't aproved by Sony..
I guess this comment relates to the use of VRAM as swapspace. |
