PSP Remote Port D-Pad MOD! DONE!

Post by Electro »

How to do it:

What U will need:

PSP Remote
Image

(8) 3in long Wires (Any)

Some old controller circuit board for the D-Pad.

RemaPSP:

This can be used to control any of the PSP buttons.
Thanks danzel. ;)

Step 1:

Take the 2 screws out.

Step 2:
Soldered the 8 3in long Wires to each of the buttons U would like. I soldered the wires to the Back, Next, Play and Volume - but U can solder to any of them in any order.
(Except for the hold switch because I don't think it's supported in the RemaPSP app.)

Step 3:
Brake out the left side of the circuit board so it's just the D-Pad contacts.

Step 4:
Solder the 8 wires to the D-Pad circuit board.
So that each wire is soldered to the other side of the contacts like so:

When your done it should look something like this:

(Sorry for the bad pics but my camera sucks on close pics.)

Then read the readme in the RemaPSP to find out how to Use it.
(U can allso flash the 2 PRX's that are in the dh/kd folder to your flash0.
I found that to work better.
To do this Put the 2 (prx's nkthread.prx and remapsp.prx) into the kd folder of flash0.
And U will also need to add these 2 lines:
Right after /kd/impose.prx

/kd/nkthread.prx
/kd/remapsp.prx

to the pspbtcnf_game.txt that is also in the kd folder.

NOTE I ONLY TESTED THIS ON 3.40 AND 3.52M33-4!
FLASHING TO ANY OTHER FIRMWARE OVER 3.52M33-4 MAY RESULT IN A BRICK!!!

ALSO THIS ONLY WORKS FOR HOMEBREW AND UMD'S.

And U can use the D-Pad buttons from the controller that U get the circuit board from.
O and as for the case I didn't think of 1 yet.
But U guys can suggest 1. ;)

Cheers.

RemaPSP can map the remote control to PSP buttons, not sure if it works on the new firmware, might do.

As many of U know the PSP Remote that U use with your FAT PSP's headphones has 6pins so..
My Idea is this:

I am going too make a joystick that uses those 6pins.
Unless you can program a microcontroller you will need to destroy a remote to do so,
and don't expect it to be as responsive as the D-pad.
All of the information passed from the remote to the PSP is sent through one wire.
The others have different purposes.
It's not a matter of connecting an old Amiga joystick to those six wires.

PS, already did it with a little game of Pong. Player two can use the
remote forward and reverse buttons as the second joystick ;)
If not actually, then potentially.

I'm taking my remote apart and will solder a joystick to it.

It already has the controls I need:

From danzel readme:
Controls:
Prev Track: left
Next Track: right
Play: Split/Join.

Valid options for the remote:
r_left r_right (Previous/Next Track)
r_play
r_up r_down (Volume)
