Because the transcoding of this following caracters are wrong :
é, è, à, ô, ï, ê, ö, ç...
-----------
Now using PMP Mod 1.02 with some nice FPS gain with my slow SONY MS...

Hello everyone

I am getting issues with VOB input. I normally rip 1 VOB file from the DVD which contains video + audio source.

Example: THE WEATHER MAN (NTSC) DVD
Ripped to hard drive using DVDDecrypter to 1 VOB file. AVI2PMP has problems reading the file, it only thinks its 33mins and not 1:41 mins.
PMP Simple Convertor has the same problem and is Mencoder base.
VirtualDub 1.6.11 can read it with no problem.

Any thoughts why this is happing?

Read an answer on previous page about Turkish language. If it will work, i'll implement a possibility to change codepage in the programm.

@uNn99
Hey, great work on that proggie of yours :) Looks nice :)
Currently I'm at work, so I haven't tested fully your application yet, but is there any possibilitie to pass some extra command lines (if I'm using mencoder), like some extra video filters, sharpness, placement of subtitles, outline size of subs and stuff like that? Just for the "advanced" users :)

I know I can "edit encode.bat" but if I could use that extra input line, then it could be possible to save those settings instead of editing bat files each time (which is regenerated as I guess) :)

Keep it up =)

EDIT (after trying it at home):
1 ) I couldn't get the cropping function to work manually...
Say, I got a video (DVDr) with size 720:480 and I wanted to crop (for example) 10 pixels from both sides (left and right). I've tried all possible settings under "Video options" but result always looked like this : crop=720:348,scale=408:272
And the "right" setting should be like : crop=704:480:10:0,scale=360:272.
Did I miss something, or setting crop values manually just doesn't work?

2) For DiVX encodings *maybe* you would add a new setting nr
nr=<0-100000>
Noise reduction, 0 means disabled. 0-600 is a use- ful range for typical content, but you may want to turn it up a bit more for very noisy content (de- fault: 0). Given its small impact on speed, you might want to prefer to use this over filtering noise away with video filters like denoise3d or hqdn3d.
Usually I use value of 300 for my DVD sources.

3) For audio options you could make a dropdown box with following settings:
mode=<0-3>
(default: auto)
0
stereo
1
joint-stereo
2
dualchannel
3
mono
and set it to 0 by default (and maybe limit it to 0 and 3 only?).

4) Could the "bitrate" box be a drop down box with all well-known bitrates like 96, 112, 128 etc? Kinda more userfriendly =) And of course it have to be editable so people can put their own "weird" bitrates in :)

5) The same goes to "Change FPS" box (read #4).

6) XViD mode supports "cartoon" or "nocartoon" mode which is perfect for TV rips of Simpsons, The Family Guy, Anime and stuff like that... Maybe it should be added too?

7) The most important thing for "Preview" button is if you could add what to decode for previewing. Right now it decodes first 15 seconds of a source and for most DVDrs it's just a black screen (with starting credits or company logo etc). Simply adding a new box or give some other possibilitie to what part/time to decode would be great!

8) Is it possible to add an option like in WinMEnc for start of encoding and stop/duration? Say, -ss 00:03:34 -endpos 01:12:23 will start encoding process 3mins 34secs from the start and will encode from that point and 1h 12mins and 23 secs. That would be just perfect =)

That's like... all ideas/comments I've had =)

Guide/tutorial for converting DVD (and other normal files) to PMP at best quality possible (works for me) avoiding the usual audio stuttering and ghosting problems.

this is a great app!
the only thing that i'd like is a default folder for saving the pmp files, otherwise it's already perfect ;)

Hi,
This app saves me a lot of time !!
I just want to say that i tried the solution for subtitles problem (I'm french too), and it works very well. I use the codepage: -subcp latin1 and everything is ok for my french characters.
So i will be very pleased if you can add a codepage parameter in your next version.
Thanks again.

HI uNn99,
I have a problem with the "crop and widescreen".
The problem occurs both when "Use Aspect Ratio Information " is enabled or disabled.
Here is a sample (8megs):
http://videoff7.free.fr/sample.mpg
The problem is that whatever the settings are, I get black bar around the video (on the top and bottom).
The source is DVD NTSC 720x480 16/9
You will notice too that when Use Aspect Ratio Information is used, the aspect ratio is detected as 720x540 (??)

There is another slight bug, is that when I open the decrypted vob, and I press the Preview button, then I get "4291367296 is not a valid integer value."

That's it!
See you,

Alcahest

Hey uN99 I must confess that your little App is really great so, in order to make it a little closer to the BEST converter out there, I was wondering if you can add different type of resizing method (bilinear, ect..) that could make the process more faster Without a total lost of quality.
Thank and once again, great work

Also, I'm having problem dowloading with rapidshare, anyone got anothor host, or better yet, if someone is willing to send it to my mail I would be nice

Is there a way to correct?
I can't test with Turkish, but you can :) Find subfont.ttf in apps\Mencoder\mplayer and replace it with font, that supports Turkish characters. Then add file to a queue and press "edit queue", find -subcp cp1251. cp1251 is codepage for Russian text, you should replace it with your codepage (which i don't know ;) )

Thank you for your quick answer!
I will try it and let's hope that is going to work! ;-)
When I edited the encode.bat I used -subcp gr1253 so let's see!!!

I think you rather would have to use -subcp cp1253.cp for it to work.

OK I have one final problem...
In some avi files when I open them it says '2.50' is not a valid integer value...
What's that? will it effect the outpout result?

no, it won't affect the result, i think that mediainfo can't resolve some info and this erorr occur.

Thank you for the help...!
Only one suggestion... Can you put an option for the subtitles codepage (preview and encoding)?

and I want to say that I've tried about 3 or 4 converters... yours is the best!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Great app uNn! In your next update, could you add a shutdown after conversion checkbox? I've been manually adding "shutdown -s" to the bat file, but if I edit the bat within the program, it will append "pause" at the end, so the string comes out "shutdown -spause" and doesn't work. Simple workaround for now is just editing the actual bat file in notepad.

The problem is that file has wrong aspect ratio info ("Aspect ratio : 4/3"), so "Use Aspect ratio Info" won't help - but you can manually enter right original resolution (or edit crop values).

Thanks for your answer.
Strange because every vob ripped from 16/9 Japanese NTSC DVDs give me the exact same Aspect Ratio as this file.
I doubt they are all wrong ^^
Anyway, thanks for confirming there's a problem indeed with this file and AvitoPMP.
